Speaking of Sports The fght between Louls (Kid) Kaplan and Babe Herman, Califor- nla battler, which is to bs held in ‘Waterbury on August 27, should drdw a large crowd of fans from this city. Information has been reached here to the effect that a erowd of fight fans plan to hire a large bus to transport the crowd from this city to Brassco Park and private cars of all descriptions will be working on that Thursday night. Kaplan {s getting into ehaps at Hanover Park in Meriden and he ‘ean be seen any afterncon doing his stunts in the Silver City. - It is said that Kap is coming along better this time than he ever did befors and his backers expect him to give Her- man an unmereitul beating. Kaplan meets no “slouch” in Babe Herman and as this will be the eixth time that these two have met, both fighters should know each other well, Kaplan has developed into a viclous puncher and when he sces an opponent facing him, he wants to go tull steam ahead In this coming fight. Iaplan has nothing to galn ar crithing to lose. Herman has noihiin to lose and everything to gain 1t from this point, and being the first title fight in this state in years, the fight will be the best staged here in many many vears. A tip to the local sports also is to get your tickets early, because mobs will be in Waterbury en the night in ques- tlon. Promoter Mulligan will probably devise some way of epreading his tickets about the state and it may be that Pat Bridgett will handle the pasteboards in this section. The preliminary bouts are being arranged wow and Mulligan promises an ex- ecellent card all the way through Tnis is one time when Connecticut #ght fans will have an opportunity to support Mulligan in this his big- gest undertaking. He is giving the ehampion $15,000 and the challenger $5.000 for their ni; s work and he will have to go some to make the bouts pay. President F. M. Bteinman of the Wew Britain Tennis club announces that one eourt will almost surely be veady for playing purposes tomorrow afternoon. Work is being rushed on ‘the other courts and he expects tham to be finished naxt week The erurts are located near the Shy Meadow elub groun: The Burritt A, C. bascball team will meet tonight at the club rcoms. All members are urged to be there at 7 oclock as important matters are to be discussed Looking at | &t Tomorrow will see a combination of Jasper and Jackson handling the play of the P. & F.
