" GREAT ‘BATTLE' - NOW 15 IMMINE Black and Blue Forces About to Clash in Pacilic War Game By The Ameclated Pross.” Honolulu, April 23.—The Island of Oabu, far-flung western outpost of the United States and key to the na- tion’s webh of defense in the Pacific, has been transformed by the Black forces, defending the islands from an attacking fleet, into armed camp, it was revealed to a correspondent of the Assoclated Press today after an Inspection tour of all defenses on the island, Just as the Blue Fleet, which is steaming toward the islands from the east in an attempt to recapture the island from the land forces, is trayeling under war conditions as far as possible, the army shore de- fenses have, been arranged along lines which would be drawn in de- fending the lsland against actual in- stead of theoretical attack, Fortification Defenses The Assoclated Press correspond- ent, accompanying Major G, H, Ten- ney of the military intelligence of- fice, was permitted to view the in- ner defense at Fort Ruger, which s situated on Dlamond Head known as the Gibraltar of the Pacific, In an effort to surprise the invad- ing Blue IFleet, numerous other mo- bile defenses scattered over ‘the is- land were kept secret. The island of Oahu today resembles an area under martial law, thousands of sol- diers wearing hat bands distinguish- ing Black forces from neutral mili- tary men. Courlers, wearing red arm bands, lend a realistic touch to the acene today, dashing to and from general headquarters, Bquat tanks are held in readiness along the roads fo repel naval attacks. About 5,000 miles of multicolored telephone wires are strung along the road, forming lines of communication from va- rious artillery control spotting sta- tions to battery headquarters, 4 The island roads are dotted with signs telling of the presence of armed forces in the vicinity.
