PARTY OF CHILE INSTATE OF SIEGE Plot on Part of Unionists to Overturn Government By The Assoclated Pross. Santiago, Chile, March 2,—A state of slege has been declared in the | Chilean provinces of Santfago, Val- paralso and Aconcagua’ (the most thickly populated sections of the country.) The measure was dictat- ed by incldents occurring Saturday held to Indlcate the existence of a plot on the part of the unionists with the object of overturning the present government. The principal unfonist leaders, including Manuel Rivas Vicuna and Ladislao Errazu- riz, have been arrested, The authorities count upon the state of slege permitting them to maintain order in the most populous areas of the country and thereby prevent any successful reaction. Among the Chilean wunionists s found the element opposed to the re- Igime of President Alessandrl, over- turned last fall and reestablished re. cently with the result that the ex- fled president {s returning from abroad to resume his office, Press dispatches through Buenos | Alres Saturday stated that the Chil- can government had reestablished a censorship throughout the country. A dispatch to La Naclon of Buenos Alres from Santlago on Sunday re- iported a revolt by the Valdivia regi- ment in the Santiago garrison 1in which it was reported that two non- commissioned officers had heen kill- ed. The message added that a num- ber of politiclans had been arrested and questioned, some of them being subsequently liberated. The general impression was that the disturbance was due to the activities of excited politiclans, that further trouble was not likely, and that quiet prevailed fn Santiago, although the censorship was being maintained REASON FOR ADMISSION, ‘Washington, March 2.-—Admission 1 regular business meeting Wednes- day evening in Vega hall. day afternoon Mrs. Emily Remming- ton will entertain the members at |the home of John Young, 320 Chestnut street.
