Wy AMERICAN LEGION BALL, About 200 couples attended the Glover post, American Legion, last night at the state armory., Thls af- fair always attracts a select throng and in this respect It ran true to form last evening. From 8 to 9 a concert was given by the Rexmere orchestra, under the leadership of John Sulllvan, and from 9 to 1 dancing wasenjoyed, the program consisting chieflly of fox trots with an occasional waltz in- terspersed. A pleasing ‘feature was the singing of Miss Anna Krawitz, whose volce blended harmonlously with the orchestra during the waltz numbers. The hall was attractively decorat- ed with colored bunting which com- pletely hid walls and ceilings. Streamers ran from the sides to the center and at the entrance to each box stood a large American flag. Late in the evening, Governor John H. Trumbull arrived to pay a brief visit. He was escorted to his box, where he was received in the name of New Britain by Mayor Pao- nessa who, with Mrs. Paonessa, oc- cupled an adjoining box. While the orchestra played “Hall to the Chief,” Governor Trumbull was escorted in- to the hall by a guard composed of Captain E. P. Dunn, Captain W. W, T. Squire, Lieut. W. H. Jackson, Lieut. Thomas Carey, Lieut, John I. DeLorenze, Lieut. Harry C. Jackson, Major C. C. Scarborough, Harry E. Scheuy, Edward E. Ogren, Maurice Pease and R. W. Chamberlain. Before his departure, Governor Trumbull held a reception, during which many seized the opportunity to shake hands with the first citizen of Connecitcut, The ball was one of the most en- joyable social functiona of the winter, Nothing was lacking to make the stay of the guests enjoyable.
