New Lgndon, Aug. 13.—While 300 alleged members of the Ku Klux Klan were staging a ceremonial at Fort Hill, Groton late last night, an anony- mous complaint by telephone to the Groton state police barracks, led two policemen through a three-hour tour | of the countryside in an effort to lo- cate three automobiles occupied by | klansmen who were reported to be | stopping travelers on the Groton- | Center Groton road. | The complaint was made at 1 a. m, by a woman who said she lived in ! Center Groton, but who refused to | divulge her name. She declared that | some autoists had come to her home and told her that they had been stop- | ped by klansmen nearby, but the | complaint to the police would not de- | scribe the location other than to say | that it was between Groton and Cen- ter Groton, which villages are four miles apart. Two policemen were immeédiately dispatched from the barracks, and a thorough search made for the al- leged klansmen availed nothing. The searchers, after completing a tour of the Center Groton road, continued their trail through to Old Mystic, in the bellef that if klansmen were busy there, there must be a klan meeting | somewhere nearby. The chase was con- tinued until 4 o'clock this morning | when the men returned to the bar- racks.
