Kristopik escaped serious injury, as he jumped before the train hit the ‘farm machinery, ‘The Kristopik farm lies on both sides ‘of the railroad track and there ‘Is &' crossing which Is used in going from one fleld to ‘the other. The farmer had been working in a field and was on his way home for supper. The tractor went up a slight incline onto the tracks, but stalled in the center of them. The train was com- ing at a high rate of speed and Kris- topik jumped in the nick of time. He' suffered minor bruises and a general shaking up, but today was nene the worse for hia experience, it was reported at.his home, . Giannotta Gets Contract The contract for the construction of the new school in the Blue Hills sec- tion was awarded to the Giannotta Construction Co. of Kensington at a meeting of the Berlin school hoard in the town hall last night. Giannotta's bid was $11,772, the lowest of six sub- mitted, They contract to furnish heat- Ing ‘equipment fot the school was awarded to Park and O'Conner of New Britain, their quotation for the work being $822. A contract: for placing asphalt shingles on the roof of the Percival echool was let to the Giannotta Con- struction Co., the bid of this concern being® $273.90. H. A. Goodrich was awarded the contract for building two chimneys on the portable school in Kensington at a cost of 375, Goodrich alse received the contract for huild- ing a concrete wall at the Kensington sehool, the price being $60, Miscellaneous Shower. A miscellaneous shower in honor of Miss Theresa Venezlano was held Thursday evening at her home. She received many beautiful gifts. The route would be over the present turnpike through Berlin and Newington. Mr, Wagner stated that the service would be seven days a week, the first bus leaving Meriden at 6 o'clock in the morning and the last at 11 o’clock at night, the same schedule applying at the Hartford end. The two men said that they are de- pending upon the outlying districts in Meriden, Berlin and Newington more than they are upon the cities them- selves, and added that the transpor- tation service afforded by this bus line would tend to build up the out- lying districtas. They plan to run busses on the day of the hearing before the Public Utili- ties commission and will carry any persons wishing to appear before the commission in favor of the project. Republican Caucus. Coming. The republican caucus will be held in Berlin on August 27, it was learned today in a conference with Henry C. Deming, chairman of the republican town committee. This caucus will be iheld for the purpose of nominating delegates to the state, congressional, senatorial and probate court gonven- t:ons and will be held in the town hall, probably at § o'clock in the evening. Mr. Deming said that other details will be forthcoming at a later date. Baseball Tomorrow. The A. B.
