Playing seven innings without get ting credit for a single assist was the unique record made by the Cincinnati Reds on July 22, 1906, in the second game of a double-header. Outfielders had 12 chances and the first baseman but one. It was a great pop-up day. The score: CINCINNATT, ab, r. Huggins, 2b. wacaa.$ Kelley, 1f. Judge, rfs Deal, 1b. Chicago, July 22.—~Competition was keen today in the second®18 hole qualitying round of the Western As- ateur golf championship at the Hinda- Golf club, as 62 players scored better than 80 yesterday in the first round, and only a few of the 151 starters turned in really bad scores. While Captain B. F. Carter of Chi- cago led the ecoring with a round in 84-35-69, he was closely pressed, no fewer than four being Within the stroke ot him and a dozen others within striking distance of medal honors. P Scores for the first day showed that Chicagoans who have had almost a continuous monopoly on the western title, during the 24 previous tourna- ments, have plenty of competition this year. James Manion of St. Louis tied at 70 with three Chicagoans for sec- ond score, and Frank Dyer of Mgm- phis shared a 72 woth John Dawson and Arthur Sweet of Chicago, there heing no scores of 71. No Opposition Expected To Bond Issue Changes No opposition is expected tonight at a special session of the eity meeting board when a resolution will be in- troduced to chance the financing plan of a $160,000 park bond issue voted at a recent session of the board. The Ifirst National Bank of Boston will handle the issue provided instaliments are made payable in substantially equal amounts, this being in accord- ance with law, The issue, as voted at the last meeting does not provide for equal payments, but in the opinion of Corporation Counsel John H. Kirk- ham and Attorney General Frank Healy it woyld have been legal. Thirty thousand cubic feet of air weighs approximately one ton. . Kalamazoo, Mich., July 22.—Four- teen entries will start today in the $25,000 American pacing derby, fea- turing the second day of the 17th an- nual Grand Circuit renewal here. The event is for 2:08 class pacers. The Murphy entry, Baron Worthy, is con- sidered to be the favorite. Fred Edman won the $2,000 event for 2:03 trotters yesterday, feature event of Kalamazoo's seevnteegth an- nual Grand Circuit renewal, driving Favonian to victory over Czar Wor- fthy., The latter horse, driven by Tommy Murphy, won the first heat but in the next two heats the Edman horse out-trotted his epponent. Edman’s eecond victery came in the 2:07 trot, when with Harvest Day, a rank outsider, he finjshed three heats on an event basia with Mr. McElwyn, and in the fourth and deciding heat, won, owing to Mr. Mc- Elwyn breaking in the stretch. Irene Scott, driven by Fleming, won the first two heats of the 2:10 pace, then lost the third heat to Ie- kander. The finishes were all closeé. Etta Druin had little trouble in cap- turing the 2:18 trot, the field offering practically no opposition. Most birds are restless when & change in the weather is likely.
