When Schmidt was taken to the Tuxedo hospital with three wounds, ene in the back, another in the ankie and a third which entered his hip pocket and lodged in a pair of silk &lo dolng little harm, the prisoner said he had pever been arrested be- fore, and charges of felonious assault and attempted robbery of a freight ecar were prepared. When his finger prints were taken it was noticed they were very similar to Schmidt's as shown by postoffice circulars, al- though differing in one unit, Cha H, Clarahan, chief postoffice inspec- tor of the New York division, and In- apector Shea, who knew Schmidt, were called to Tuxedo. Inspector Clarahan notified the warden of the Atlanta penitentiary, and keepers are expected to come soon to take charge of the prisoner, Schmidt told Inspector Shea that he and Anderson parted at Savannah, Ga. He refused to tell how he and Anderson escaped or how Chapman and Gray made their getaway. .
