Distinguished by quite a number of esmall affairs, the past week has béen indeed’ very festive. Every day saw numerous gatherings of two or three tables for bridge or mah jongg or for tea. Washington's birthday = coming on Friday as it did, brought many of the school set home for this week-end &nd a number of parties have been given for them. One of the most im- portant of these was the bridge which Miss Harriet Reynal, daughter of Mr, and Mrs. Louis Reynal, gave at her home on Lexington street this after- noon to announce the engagement of Miss Mildred Meisner, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Meisner of Ber- lin to Kenneth Relyea of Bridgeport and New Britain, On Wednesday several bridge par- ties were held at the Shuttle Meadow club. A list of those entertaining in- cludes the names of Mrs, Harry Bates, Mrs. Kenneth Searle, Mrs. H. L. Pease and Miss Harrlet Reynal. Club events were an interesting part ©f the week’'s program, one of the largest being that of the New Britain ‘Woman's club which met at the First church chapel on Tuesday at which Reverend D, Brewer Fddy, D.D. spoke on “America’s Real Problems in the Orient.”. On Wednesday the Mother- hood club of Berlin met to hear Mrs. F. G. Platt talk on “Confidences, Mothers—Daughters.” The following day Miss Mary Taylor Blauveldt met with her Current Events class in the TFirst church chapel.
