The contest was enlivened by a good many displays of fistcuffs which kept the interest at a high pitch all during the game. At times the game looked more like a gridiron battle than a sup= posedly peaceful basketbal game. Both teams were repeatedly warned by the referee to play the game cleanly, but his words had little ef- fect. The usually good team work of the Red and Blue was noticeably Jacking last night, for the team seem- ed to be unable to get started during the entire game. New Britain showed a very fast pasisng attack and out- played Washington most of the way. ‘Washington scored first when Otto Novakowski dropped in a foul after a | few minutes of fast floor work. New Britain came back and took the lead on Belser's first basket and never re- linquished it during the remainder of the game, Very little scoring was done during the first quarter and the period ended with honors practically even, New Britain leading 4 to I. The second quarter found the Crimson and Gold quintet getting in- to its stride and increasing its lead while holding the Red and Blue scor- less. At the half, it stood 7 to 3.
