-MANY NEEDY FOLKS HERE THIS SEASON Sallies Find Unusual Amount of Illness in New Britain Appeals already have started to[ come in to the Salvation Army for Christmas aid and there seems some doubt as to the ability of the Army to take care of all appeals. One case| which has been brought to the at-| tention of Ensign Carl Fredrickson is| that of a woman who has been ill for years and whose ‘only support has been one daughter. Now the daughter is ill nnd both are in need of help. The money being received by the | Christmas kettles goes for Christmas | relief only and no money received | during the drive which just closcd‘ can be used for that purpose. Thursday when the stores begin to | keep open evenings until Christmas | the Sallies have enlisted the aid of| Santa Claus and the latter will re- ceive contributions with his chimney at some convenient spot on Main| street, This year there seems to be consid- erable illness among the needy fam- {lies, according to Ensign Frederick- son. One woman on the list for a Christmas basket has been bedfast for 20 years. The conditions among the needy families in the city this year brings back recollections of one case which came to light through the Sallies’ Santa Claus at this season last year. Santa was standing in front of a Main street store when a tiny little girl came up and whispered, “Please Mr, | santa, bring us a chicken, We got eight kids and we aint got no chicken.” The story was published and the family and others like it were pplied with a Christmas dinner One man came in to the Herald of- fice and agreed to provide the entire at his own expense. Others followed suit. The same conditions exist today and the Sallies’ kettles are | on the street to help out. dinner New Britain Laboratory ‘ Granted State Approval Dr. Richard W.
