“THE GINGHAN GIRL AREFRESHING SHOW | Parsons' Presats a New Kind of Wusical Gomedy Production “The Gingham Girl," the eurrent week's offering at Parsons' theater, Hartford, is a clean, wholesome and refreshing musioal comedy built uround a simple love story sweetly told, Necause of the many plays seen the past season with the sex problem as their plots or musical | camedies with nothing but suggestive- ness to offer it was indeed a pleasure to see this produetion which is of. | fhred Hartford and New Writain | theatergoers by Schwah and Kusell The play, in brief, is the story of ® country girl apd country boy who to New York in search of sue- 85, The boy makes the first hreak from the hometown in New Hamp- shire but is soon lost in the whirl and ife of the large city despite his boastful ravings at home that he would make them all sit up and take notice when he arrived, He secures work as an artist's model and Is thus engaged when he first meets his country sweetheart in New York, BShe too has come to make her fortuno and | brings with her the “Blue-Bird" cookie which she has made famous nt home, Meeting a New York friend whom she had become ac- quainted with in her home town, she unfolds her story and through him s able to start in business until it becomes one of the biggest cookie husinesses in New York., The coun- try beau comes to the factory and applies for the job but when seen by his former sweetheart he is given a half interest In the plant as she re- called that on the day of his depar- ture from Crossville Corners he pre- sented her with $100 as a birthday present which she sald would be uscd to help her start in business. Lorin Raker ns John Cousins, the small town fidol with the big city ideas, provided much of the comedy and with his line of witty “'wise- cracks” kept the audience in a go nature throughout the performance. Irma Marwick as Mary Thompson, the' country girl, played well opposite him, Miss Marwick possesses a most | pleasing soprano voice and favorably | impressed her audignce of last night | with her solo as well as duet num- bers with Mr. Racker and Wynne Gibson. Miss Gibson as Libby O'Day and | Willlam Frawley as Jack Hayden, a couple with pep as . their motto, breezed in and out of the play many times but each time gained favor with the first nighters because of their song and dance numbers and snappy lines. Harry Myers as Harrison Bartless, Gertrude Mudge as Sophia Trask, ’eggy Maloney as Mazie LeLewer and Julia Kelety as Sonya Maison helped 1o keep up the comedy end of the production. The musical and dance numbers were well done.” Miss Marwick and Mr. Rak were pleasing in thelr duet numbBer of “As Long As I Have You,” the musical refrain which is played . frequently throughout the show. A specialty dance number by the Caprice sisters in the first act was well executed. Miss.Kelety and . Mr, Raker presented a comedy singing number called “The Wonderful Thing We Call Lode” which was a feature of Reviewer), ssecond act. Perhaps the best singing | and dance number of the piece was “The Newlyweds” as effected by Miss Marwick yand Mr, Frawley in the third jact. The stage settings were igood while the finale of the third cat with the stage in darkness excepting for a huge electric light sign flashing n bright lights “Blue-Bird Cookies” was most effective. |Positively fresh eggs b9c doz \Runefl Bros.—advt.
