Portland, Ore., Oct. 4—Action on resolutions was to begin here today at the annual convention of the Am- erican Federation of Labor. Proposed participation of the federation in poli- tics and wuggested changing of the basis of organizations from crafts to industries In line with the one big union idea, were among the matters to be decided. Defeat of proponents of a resolu- tion for recognition of soviet Russia in an attempt to have the resolution transferred from the resolution com- mittee to the international affairs committee was interpreted by leaders as a straw In the wind showing the strength of the conservative element in the convention. Leaders and delegates who have so tar expressed themselves informally in the convention hall or at the hotels have Indicated no movement on foot for any change in the official family Are You Ruptured’ Instant Relief From experience we found . many cases broken through after the operation, and those that were operated on for her- nia, or any other abdominal operation, should at once with- out delay, come and see us, be- cause these cases should not be feft go without any protection. A trall of blood led a group of boys to a plle of rocks 175 feet from the dressing room last night where the man's head was found buried more than a foot deep in the sand. Near the spot was found a suit of blood- stained under clothing, leading detec- tives to belfave that the head was wrapped in the garment and carried to the spot. ¥ The head was removed to the morgue and placed beside the torso where hundreds viewed the body in an effort to identify it. Morgue offi- clals declared after a post mortem ex- amination, that the death instrument had been a large knife such as a scimitar and advanced the opinion that more than one person was in- volved in the killing.
