DEF But Insist That lfldmlssion Be Charged at Gate Peter Cabelus, manager of the po- licemen's baseball team, informed a ““Horald"” reporter this morning that his team is willing to accept the chal- lenge which has been issued by the firemen's team through their man- ager, George Hoffman, The challenge will be accepted, however, only under the condition that no admission will be charged, Policeman Cabelus said this morning. The police, he said, play the Meri- den coppers each year and a general admission is charged, and the police- men therefore feel that it would be unfair to tax the public for any ad- ditional games played in this city, The policemen also feel that the firemen secure money for their pension fund by means of an annual New Year's ball and as the police secure money for | their fund by means of the annual game with Meriden, it is not felt among the majority of officers that money should be secured through other games. Any number of games will be played with the firemen, Manager Cabelus said, but all of them must be free to the public or the games are off, he asserted. Hurley that four of the five state policemen suspended from the force on July 14 for conduct unbecoming officers had offered their resignations, which were accepted, and the fifth, Roger D, McKesson of New Haven, had been reinstated. This action follows four hearings befdgre the state police commission- ers ‘on charges brought against the men, who were stationed at the Centerbrook barracks. The officers who have resigned are: Willlam H, Dean of Hamden, John Egan of Hartford, WinWeld Shea of New Haven, George J. Skeba of Meri- den, A thorough investigation was con- ducted by the commission and the men were given every opportunity to clear themselves, or resign, which is the course the four of them took. The men attended a dinner party with feminine guests, to which liquor was brought and at which it was serv- ed. In addition they have been accused of laxness in enforcing the law, par- ticularly the liquor law. By voluntarily resigning the four men-escaped officfal announcement of their actions. When they were arrest- ed they were ordered to their homes, 4 oalc SureRelief OR INDIGESTION N\O® > 6 BeLvans -L*iv = | Hot water =\ Sure Relief 25¢ and 75¢ Packages Everywhere and left behind their uniforms.
