London, March 16.—The British government has a liability to pay the British loyaisits in southern Ireland whose property has been destroyed, nearly $150,000,000, according to the claims made by a meeting of Irish loyalists held in London recently. Lord Carson, the leader of the Irish U'nionists, was the principal speaker. | 8ir William Davison, member of Par- liament, presided. The chairman was responsible for the eéstimate of damages suffered. He said that before the' truce the claims amounted to ten million pounds, but they had since risen to thirty millions, { “and as villages are now being sent | into the air wholesale, no doubt these claims are rapidly increasing.” Lord Carson gave examples of the ruin in Ireland. The Great Southern and Western Railway had lost prac- | tically al its capital, amounting to millions of pounds ,and all the peo- ple who held shares were ruined. He cited numerous cases of individual suffering ,told of Irish ladies recently rich who had been reduced to work- ing in England as servants ,and de- clared these were examples from thousands. | —_— DISPOSES OF ESTATE. Manchester, March 16.—Another of England’'s great estates is about to change hands. The Earl of FElles- mere is disposing of his holdings in Lancashire and Cheshire to a syndi- cate of business men for nearly three million pounds sterling. The proper- |ties include the largest privately owned colleries in Lancashire and employ some 3,000 men. JARTSIGN (0. S 287 MAINST. LEADING COMMERCIAL Al Malmgren & Walter Skoneche Props.
