Murray, Rev, Fathers McAuliffe and Kirby of Hartford, and Rev, Patrick Daly of this eity, The pall bearers were John Sullivan, Thomas Aldrich, Philip Burns, Francls McGuire, James Doyle and Benediet Durham, of this city, former puplis of the deceased teacher, Assisting as altar boys at the mass were Robert Regan and Francls Brat- ton, also former puplls of the deceased, At a meeting of the alumni of St Joseph's parochial school yesterday afternoon, action was taken on the death of Sister RRose, A requiem high mass will be sung for the repose of the sou! of the deceased nun at St. Joseph's church at § o'clock on Thursday morning. CATHOLIC CHURCH NOTES Tev. Father Cavanaugh to Speak at St. Mary's and Rev. Father Downey ‘Wednesday. At St. Mary's church yesterday morning, announcements were made of the following requiem masses dur- ing the coming week: Tuesday morn- ing at 7 o'clock, the fourth anniver- sary mass for the late Mrs. Anfa legat; Wednesday morning at 7 o'clock, for Miss Catherine Smith; Thursday morning at 7 o'clock, for Mrs. Thomas Hanley; Friday at 7 o'clock, for Mrs. Catherine Murphy, and Friday at 7:30 o'clock a month's mind mass for the late Patrick 8. McMahon. Rev. Father Cavanaugh of Park- ville, will' deliver the Lenten sermon at the Wednesday night service. The usual Lenten service will be held Fri- day night. Wednesday, Friday and Saturday are ember days this week. A meoting of the St. Mary’'s Ladies Temperance society will be held at the school hall, and following the meeting a social session will be held. Rev. William A, Downey of 8t Thomas' seminary at Hartford will deliver the first of a series of five sermons at St. Joseph’s church Wednesday evening. The customary service will be held on Friday night. Death of Edward Nihill, Veteran S. R. & L. Employe Fdward Nihill, aged 73 years, a na- tive and life-long resident of this city, died yesterday morning at his home, 158 South Main street, after a brief illness. Mr. Nihill attended to his employment Wednesday at the Stan- ley Rule and Level Co, where he was a wood turner for many years, and in the evening at his home he complained of pains in his back. On Friday his condition took an alarm- ing turn, when deuble pneumonia set in. He is survived by a brother, Rev. James B. Nihill, pastor of St. Augustine’s church,' at Bridgeport, and a nephew, Rev. James Tyler, as- sistant pastor of St. Mary's church, at Jewett City. The funeral will be held at 9 o'clock tomorrow morning at St. Joseph's church. Burial will be in St. Mary's new cemetery. Merifiield Tuttle Dead At South Main St. Home Merifield Tuttle, for the past ten years a resident of New Britain, died at-the home of his sister, Miss E. Jen- nie Tuttle at 418 South Main street, at an early hour this morning. He was born on May 29, 1849, Besides his sister he is survived by two nieces, Mrs. R. V. MacCullough and Mrs. E. L. Teitch of this city. Previous to coming to New Britain Mr. Tuttle made his home in Ken- sington. The funeral will be held tomorrow afternoon at 1 o'clock from the B. C. Porter undertaking parlors. Rev. Dr. George W. C. Hill will officiate and interment will be in the old Indian Hill cemetery, Middletown. SECOND OF TWINS DEAD, The two-months-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Dionne of 32 Connerton street, died yesterday morning. The child was one of twins, the other one dying about two weeks ago.
