Russell, governor of Mississippi today stood clear of charges brought against him by Miss Irances C. Birkfead, his_former stenographer in her suit for $100,000 damages. A seven word verdict, “we, the jury find for the de- fendant” furnished a dramatic climax late yesterday to the seven day trial. Miss Birkhead alleged seduction and impairment of health as the re- sult of an illegal operation which she declared the governor had connived at, and asked $50,000 in each instance. The verdict was presented just 28 minutes after the conclusion or ar- guments. Counsel, for Miss Birkhead indicated an appeal would be taken.
