HORDE OF SOLDIERS TRAINED IN EUROPE Immense Number-of Armed Men Being Supported in Balkans A Rome, Oct. 20.—The armies of the yanquished in the world war have been reduced to 100,0b0 men for Ger- many and 30,000 each for Austria- Hungary and Bulgaria, according to the newspaper La Epota, which has collected statistics on the miMtasy strength of various countries in Europe from official sources. The paper calls attention to the immense number of soldiers who are being trained to arms in southern and | wstern Purope. In the Balkans, where the spark that brought about the conflagration was ignited, the rec- ord is particularly high, it declares. Greece, with a population of 6,500,- noo h an army of 300,000 men, Y 'go-Blavia, bellicose by nature and tradition and surrounded by neigh- bors who do not love her, has an army of 80,000 men, a heavy burden on her scanty finances. Rumania and Czecho-Slovakia, haunted by the fear of bolshevism and surrounded by en- emies and uncertain friends, keep up each an army of 200,000 men; while Poland, new to'liberty and indepen- dance and hating bitterly her former masters, Germany, Russian and Aus- tria, pauperizes herself to keep on a war footing 300,000 soldiers.
