A, Bull, American Designer, to Compeote With British Expert at Bayside, L. 1., Tomorrow, New York, June 7.—E. A, Bull to- morrow afternoon will journey to Bayside, L. I, to defend an interna- tional trophy for model yacht racing against the challenge of W. T. Dan- fels of l.ondon—one of the foremost European authorities in yacht build- ing of the seagoing type. Model yacht racing is a novelty to this country but the experts expect to see the testing of carefully worked out theories. The model yachts are really toys—costing from 8750 to $1,000 apiece. The two model yachts that will compete in a series of five races for the internationa! cup are of class B rating, bullt to conform to special modifications of the American universal rules. Mr. Bull's yacht is 45.5 inches on the water line and has a mast ahout eight feet high, a sail spread of from 3,000 to 3,100 square inches and weigh 39 pounds—31 of them of lead. Dr, Rull's theory is that a short hull with a relatively large sail area will go faster than a long boat with lesser spread. Mr. Daniels’ yacht is 50 inches on the water line, carries 2,700 square inches of sails and weighs 44 pounds, 33 of lead hanging from her keel to halancé the light hull in a stiff wind. It is so delicately made that he called it “a bread and butter hoat.” OLD GUARD IS LOSING Progressive Landslide in Towa Gives Republicans There Considerable ‘Worry—Brookhart Winner. Returns from 2235 Iowa precincts out of 2348 for the republican sena- torial nomination emphasized the pro- gressive victory giving Brookhart 41.1 per cent of the total cast, and sent Clifford E. Thorne, another progres- sive, into second place above Charles E. Pickett, the old guard republican candidate. The tally now gives: Brookhart, 129,426, Thorne, 50,693, Pickett, 49,8390, Francis, 39,024, veet, 33,962, Stanley 12,641, The fact that Cummins defeated Brookhart for senator two years ago after a campaign in which the latter attacked Cummins' railroad legisla- tion record will not tend to bring har- mony in the Jowa senatorial delega- to govern. tion, politicians pointed out.
