EW BRITAIN HERALD NEW BRITAIN DAILY HERALD, FRIDAY, APRIL 14, 1922, The Next Que;l-z’ MINING GONGRESS TG HOLD ANNIVERSARY Organization Founded 25 Years Ago~Holds Convention October 14 Cleveland, O., April 14.—The Amer- fcan Mining Congress, representing mining interests of the country, will observe {ts 25th anniversary at its annual convention here October O to 14. It will also celebrate a growth of mineral production in the T'nited States indicated by a value of $6,. 707,000,000 in 1920, compared with a value of $546,992,582 in 1807, ac- cording to figures of the congress. Canada, Mexico and several South American countries have been invit. ed to particlpate in an elaborate ex- position of mines and mining equip- ment to be held in the Public Hall, which was recently completed here at an approximate cost of $6,000,000, Delegations from all the important mining states are expected to attend, Thirty-nine states and territories were represented gt the convention in Chi- cago last October, Officials of the congress expressed a hope that 1922, like 1807, will bring a revival of the mining {ndus- try. In support of that hope they as- serted that demand for production of all kinds is increasing and that a number of the large western copper mines have resumed operation. In detailing the development of the mining industry since the formation of the Congress, officials of the or- ganization cited an increase in the output of coal mined in America from 178,776,070 tons in 1897 to 69,538~ 000 tons in 1920. Copper figures giv- en were 220,571 tons for 1897 and 639,759 for 1920, “One of the most noticeable ehanges during the last 25 years¥ says a statement issued by the Con- gress, ‘has been the expansion of American interests overseas. The in- ternational aspect of the convention and exposition will be in keeping with this change, and will indicate the op- portunities which are presented not only for the investment of American capital in mining in all parts of the world but of steady increase in the utilization of American mine equip- ment and machinery in foreign mar- YALE ELECTIONS AN FASTER SALLE OF SELMA HAIR NETS 8c 3 on 250 All New Britain Women know that we sell them every day at 1215¢ ER SALE OF MARY GARDEN TAICUM A new shipment from Rig- naud of Paris, The 3¢ size box.
