The other side of money —the things in connection with the ideal side of life are the oncs that must he given great thought. A community of thrifty people is a good community, but that community would lose¢ much or all of its beauty were it to become a community of money worshippers. NOTION cash would =i under the five the ten cent rate. But this comparlson was not satis- factory. It was known that the usual amounts taken in varied from week to week. Thus it did not furnish a proper basis for comparison to take the receipts of the first, the second, the third week, and 8o on, under the five-cent fare, changing as those re- ceipts did, and compare them all to the receipts taken in only the last week of the ten-cent fare. The total receipts under the five- cent fare, covering a period of several wecks, should have been compared with the total receipts of a like num- ber of weeks of the tenscent fare. If the total taken in from the five-cent fare were greater than the total taken in under the ten-cent fare the fact would prove conclusively not only that the Connecticut company was being benefited under the five-cent fare, but also that the people were being bene- fited—a combination of circumstances making for the best possible results. Tt was scarcely possible to hope that this would prove to be the case, as the good will of the people is not a thing to be gained at once. It was expectedly confidently, however, that in time it would be shown that this . benefit to company and people would come.
