BIG CROWD AT BOYS CLUB ANNIVERSARY Masquerade Dances—New Or- chestra Plays—Other Functions Closa to 500 young folka attended the celebration of the first annivers sary of the opening of the new build- ing at the New Britain Boyi' club last evening, The occaslion was observed in the form of a Hallowe'en party and dance and was the first of a series of social affairs Superintendent Marshall Cook has planned for the winter. It also was the occasion of the first public appearance of the new Boys' club or. chestra, Striking Costumes, The gymnasium waa fittingly deco- rated to represent Haliowa'en. Witches riding broomsticks, black caty roaming rampant, owla and bats and other denizena of darknesa vied with spooks and hobgnblins and ghosts on the walls and their personification in real life on the floor. Fairies, elfs, animated dolls, dancera from Occl. dental climea and Oriental shores, po- lice and brownies and Buster Browns, the ama girls and Pierreta and toughy and hobhoes, disguised so com- pletely that hey had difficulty getting in, and Charlie Chaplins and Katzen- Jammer kida and Indians, and in fact almost every figura known to modern mesquerade dancers was represented He's Got His Coming. Fancy paper hati wera worn by guests who were not in costume, such aq parents, chaper and other vis- itors, confetti and “ribbon paper” cov- ered the floor and filled the air, giv- ing the whola place the appearancs of an immense ball room. One of the most striking features of the evening wag that of a young “lady’” who cama in late. His “getup” was declared to be the most clever. Prizey For Costumes. The grand march was led by the Boys' club band, of 35 pieces. Prize1 for costumea were awarded aa follown by Mrs. Marshall Cook and Mra. A, ¢, Brunelle, who acted judges: For the prettiest costumes, Misi Flavia Rivers, ag a Persian dancer and Miss Ethel Lockery, as a Spanish dancer, wern awarded first prize; and N H Sullivan, as Pierrette and Miss Liltia Meckler, Turkish dancer, w granted second prize. For tha mos: comical costumes, Marion Quinn. whose outfit was so grotesque that it defiep description and Harry Rudman who out-hoboed the original hoho, won first prize and a general laugh.
