Railroad Gets $180,000 for Damage Growing Out of Riots. Chicago, Sept. 29.—The riots of 1894, when Eugene C. Debs, now in Atlanta penitentiary, called his Ameri- can railway union scrike, were wiped off the city's books today with the pay- ment of $180,000 damages to the Pennsylvania railroad. The rajlroad obtained a verdict of $105,000 against the city in 1905 for damage to.its property in the strike. The case was appealed and lost again by the city, while the interest con- tinued to mount until $180,000, was re- quired to settle the verdict.
