Jeado a Confederate veteran of Lanott, Alabama, had coughed up a bullet which shot into his eve at Vicksburg. Mr. Meadow, the account rajd, was a member of the 37th Ala. bama regiment, and Mr. Knapp re- called an incident at the sige, when he and three other members of the 5th lowa Volunteers were called upon to a Confederate sharpshooter who was firinz through a small hole in a sheet of boiler plate. After Mr. Knapp fired, the sharp- shooter's shots were discontinued, and it was surmised that he had been shot in the eye. When Mr. s, the Knapp wrote to Mr. later said that he was iler plate and that ‘lm bullet entered his, right eye. Knapp received a photograph of the bullet and of Mr. Meadows.
