Sixth Floor SAYS MASTER MIND ENGINEERED THEFT Alleged Auto Thief Held for Trial —Gourt Cases A master mind who forced another man to steal an automobile and a man with a hunting knife with a five inch blade looking for dandelions in people’s back yards at 3:30 o’clock on an August morning, were two of the interesting features which helped relieve the monotony of city police court this morning. Tony Calabrese o!. Rockville, and John V. Cavalieri, f Wallingford, who were arrested by State Policemen Anthony Tomanio and Arthur Pinell, charged with stealing an auto from the Farmers’ Milk company of New Britain were given .a hearing this morning: Calabrese was charged with’ theft and Cavalieri with receiv- ing the stolen car with full knowledge that it was stolen. An expensive 1920 Marmon, found in their possession when arrested, is claimed by the police to also have been stolen. According to the testimony Cala- brese admitted stealing a truck here and driving to Wallingford where he turned it over to Cavalieri who stored it in his cousin’s garage where the truck was camouflaged and later sold. This testimony was corroborated by Policeman Pinell. Both officials stated that Cavalieri denied knowing the car was stolen. Laundry, who was slated to get a hearing in Rock- ville ‘this morning, is said to have been the man who arranged the sale. The car was found in possession of Antonio Grascio, who was painting it a bright red. \ Calabrese, who formerly worked for the local milk company, sald the concern did not treat him right and that Laundry, whoe he told the court was “the master mind” in the case, forced him to steal the car. He said he drove it to Wallingford where he and Laundry left it with Cavalieri. He said Cavalieri did not know it was stolen until after the car was sold. Cavalieri was represented by At- torney William Mangan. The manager of the Farmers' Milk company stid he saw the car at ‘Wallingford. Tt had been dismantled, a new radiator had been placed on it, one tire had been changed, new lights were installed and the car was painted. He said he could not swear positively that it was his car. Deputy Judge Alling found probable cause and held them under $1,000 bail for superior court. 3 “Looking for dandelions,” was the excuse offered by Nocolo Magliano, when arrested by Patrolman Feeney for prowling about the back yard in the rear of Lafayette street at 3:30 ¢’clock yesterday morning. Magliano was found to have a huntinz knife with a five inch blade upon his per- son. He was fined $35 for carrying concealed deadly weapons, the knife being one inch longer than the law allows.
