Please read this open Letter addressed to all of the people of New Britain, and vicinity whose good will and confidence, I prize, more highly than anything in the world outside of my family You know that Jim Con- nors, of Bridgeport, and I have been associated in busi- ness since 1917. I want you to know now what we have decided to do. If you approve then I want my friends in New Britain and vicinity to join us as partners in a new company, which will take over the Con- nors Stores, in Bridgeport and Hartford, and the Con- nors-Halloran Store here in New Britain, which as- you all know is The Main Store on the Main Street, in this hustling prosperous com- munity. I have reason to believe that the people of New Brit- ain and surrounding terri- tory know me pretty well They have certainly con- ferred many honors on me, which I hope I deserve. I have lived among vyou, for 41 years (I am 41 years old}, and I appreciate to.the full the support you have al- ways given me. But I want to say to you, in all frankness, that my as- sociation with Jim Connors and others, now a part of the npew corporation has given me a new vision as to what I can do for my friends in this section of Connecti- cut. It is fine to be tied up in a business way with a man of the “Jim Connors” type who is known all over the state, as a young man of fine character and fine principles — a live-wire-business man, with ideals as to how business shall be conducted, and who has the strength of char- acter and the integrity of purpose to carry out these ideals. It is a personal gratifica- tion to me to be part owner in the new enterprise which will operate under thee name of Connors-Halloran Stores, Inc. This new company is plan- ning “big things.” To plan big things is nothing new fo “Jlim Connors.” Further- more, whatever “Jim” plans be goes through with. Jim Connors has written an open letter to the people of Bridgeport who know and like him—who recognize his ability—who appreciate his integrity. I am taking the liberty of quoting from his letter be- cause what he savs applies to what I want to say to you. As follows: I pledge myself to faith- fully look after the interest of all people in New Britain and vicinity who invest in the preferred stock, of our new company. | will go as far as “Jim Connors” will and approve every word, that “Jim"” says in his letter to the people -of Bridgeport and vicinity. “Jim Connors’ Letter” “Now, at the age of 31, I am eager to establish a chain of stores in 27 more thriving communities, in Connecti- cut. “l can do so with your help. “You can help by buying Preferred Stock at $10 the share, in the new company, to be known as the Connors- Halloran Stores, Inc. which are taking over the Connors Stores - in Bridgeport and Hartford, and the Connors- Halloran Store in New Brit- ain. “The new company is au- thorized by its charter to is- sue 100,000 shares of Pre- ferred Stock, to yield 89/ an- nually on the comulative plan, also to issue 30,000 shares of Common Stock, par value $10 the share. “Our plan, in brief is as follows: “We will establish more Stores in groups of three as soon as we can. All the money invested in our Pre- ferred Stock will be used in opening new stores. “We are taking for our- selves 30,000 shares of Com- mon Stock, in exchange for the assets we have accumu- lated during the vyears, we have been in business, which include all stocks and fix- tures, in our four stores, the valuable leases we hold, and the good will we feel we have earned. ; “We will not attempt to sell all of the Preferred S#ck at once, we could not use all of the money, if we had it. It takes good business judge- ment, considerable time, and a lot of work to establish 27 new stores. “We will follow sound bus- iness methods in opening new stores. “At the start we will need to sell only 25000 shares of Preferred Stock. Joe Hal- loran and 1 believe that the people of New Britain and Bridgeport, who know us well, will buy this number of shares, and let us have the money we need to go ahead with our plans.” Have vou folks enough confidence in us to come to our support? Do you . believe we will make good? Do you think you run any risk whatever in accepting our pledge that every one of you wil get back the money you invest in .the Connors- Halloran Stores, Inc.? Now, let us tell you what we will do for you, besides returning the money you in- vest, in our enterprise, with a yearly return of 8¢, payable semi-annually. To everyone purchasing five shares of Preferred Stock, (price $30) will be given as evidence of our ap- preciation, one share of com- mon stock par value $10. We make this offer be- cause we want the people of New Britain and Bridgeport, who have been so good to us to become real partners in the business. By giving one share of Common Stock, with every purchase of five shares of Preferred Stock, the ownegs! of Preferred Stock become actual owners of two-fifths of the total shares of Com- mon Stock-—that is, the new company will own 30,000 shares of Common Stock, and you will -own as a group 20,000 shares of common stock. We think this is" playing fair. Do you? e We will send you, on re- quest, full details of our plans as they are outlined in our prospectus. AND NOW ONE THING MORE We are closing all of our stores, on Tuesday, June 7th, to prepare for a sale of all of our merchandise, at really startling reductions. This is the first step in clearing the decks for action, under the new company. Announcement of this sale will appear in all of the newspapers. This sale will start at 8 o’clock Wednesday morning, June 8th. Faithfully yours, JOSEPH M. HALLORAN June 4, 1921, Connors-Halloran Co. NEW BRITAIN =15 MAIN STREET BRIDGEPORT HARTFORD
