MANY PEOPLE ARE LEARNING ITALIAN Instructor at Mount Holyoke Finds That Study of This Latin Language Is Increasing. South Hadley, Mass., Feb. 11.—A marked increasc in the number of persons studying the Itallan lan- guage in this country is attributed in , part to the war and in part to the celebration this year of the 600th an- niversary of the death of Dante, by Dr. Mary Vance Young, professor ot Romance languages and literature at Mount Holyoke college. “One ot the iInteresting and unex- pected consequences of the war,” she said, ““is the increase in the study of Itallan. Figures lately compiled in the New York high schools show 13,- 000 students of Italian as against 300 of German. It seems probable that when things finally settle Itallan may have come into its own. Undoubted- ly it has never received the attention due Italy's superlatively beautiful literature and the importance of its great men. “In this country there is the addi- tional fact that so many Italians come yearly to our shores who with proper instruction are capable of making needed contributions to our culture and industry. Perhaps an in- centive is found just now in the cele- brations of the 600th anniversary of the death of Dante which will take place this year. An even larger group of readers Is turning over the pages of the most spiritual of all the great- est geniuses.” Eat It Annfime —Day or Night and its ease of di estion and sound 7he food is | GrapeNuts 0/06000000¢IE FAIR00000000000000000000000000T1: FA:90000000000000000000000000HE FAR 000000000000000 Always Remember This—“The Fair Is Never Undersold” l,.,....g.l “With malice toward none, with charity for all.
