J., but, according to the let- ter, there “u ground that town would cost $4 a week whereas it could be obtained for $3 a week in I'rinceton. Whether the “high cost of living” in Elizabethtown finally swayed the Congress in rejecting it is not dis- closed, but history records that the Congress met in Annapolis, Md., after opposition on the “lodging” in Elizabeth- leeving Princeton, and at no time sat at Elizatethtown. The letter, in part, which r-cently came into the possession of Mrs. Rex Worthington, of Harrison, a descend- ant of Mr. Thomson, follows: “Dear Hannah:— “I have received yur letters dated Monday 12 o'clock and Tuesday 10 o'clock at night and acknowledged the receipt of them. . Mr. Rend was misinformed re.spocung the ad- journment. They met on Monday but they might as well have adjourned till this time for any business they have done. I am very apprehensive that nothing but some @lamity will awak- en the states to a sense of thelr situa- llln o The President of Con- gress ‘mc not provided a house for himself nor is likely he will find one hére to suit him. I find Elizabethtown has been <alked of at his table as a proper place for the residence of Con- He has a house there which he will let for the use of the President. It in true the place is infested with mos- quitoes in summer and lying low and near marshes may be llable to in- termittents in the spring and fall, but these are trifling, when it is considered that by fixing the residence of Con- gress there the value of his estate will e increased and he will have an op- portunity of letting his Jouse at a good rent. But yet I am inclined to believe this will be opposed by his colleagues, for Mr. Condit has found a lodging in this town at 3 dollars a week which enables him to lay up money. And there is reason to fear is so near New York, it will cost him at least four. This would be a clear loss of 52 dollars a year which is no trifling consideration, and which I daresay will have due welght with some oth- er; “There are other welghly consid- bns which ‘ — — DOLLAR DAY Wednesday The 19th More For Your Dollar — AT THE — Than Ever Before DRESS GOODS SHOP 400 MAIN STREET .New Britain, Conn. 36-IN WOOL PANAMA, blue and grey .. .. 36-IN ALL WOOD SERGE 1 Yard 1 Yard 1 Yard 36-IN LININE, All Colors DRESS GINGHAMS CURTAIN MARQUISETTE 36-IN CREATION, Fast Colors 36-IN BLEACHED SHIRTINGS 36-INCH BLEACHED SHEETINGS 36-INCH UNBLEACHED SHEETING ....
