New Bedford, Mass., Dec. 15—De- liverance came today to the Portu- guese packet Berina which had tugged at her anchors through the night al- most on the Dumpling Rods off the Dartmouth shore while her crew pumped for their lives to keep out a rush of water and 64 Brava passeng- ers huddied in the hold on their knees in prayer. Her bowsprit was the forémast split and her sails were torn to shreds by the gale before a tug boat Dpoked past the rocks this morning and towed her here. BOYS' CLUB NOTES Basketball Game at Club Gymnasium Evening—Other Plans for This Coming Events, Tho Junior Basketball team of the Y. M. C. A. will play the Boys' club team, at the new gymnasjum at $:15 o’clock this evening. Superintendent Marshall Cook has made arrangements to have the Land- ers, Frary and Clark Girls basketball team, and the P. and F. Corbin girls team, play a game at the club gymna- sium, Monday evening, December 20. As a headliner, the Busy Bee team and the local Pyramids will clash. Mec- Keon's orchestra has been secured to furnish music. Dancing will be en- Joyed after games. Tickets are selling for this event and can be purchased at Boys’ club. The proceeds of game will be used for the needs of the gym- nasium. The Boys' Club band will play at the Burritt Grange entertainment which is to be held at the Grange Hall Sat- urday night. Plans are also being pre- pared for holding the annual Chist- mas Social. An appropriate program will be presented. It will be held Wednesday evening, December 23, at the Boys' club. Boston, Dec. 15.—With every effort of the police to find a trace of Miss Maud M. Daniels, former secretary of BE. A. It has been disclosed that on Thanksgiving Day, although she had accepted an invitation to dine with her landlady, she telephoned that she could not do so; that she dined at a down-town restaurant, going sub- sequently to the theater and then to the home of a wealthy woman friend in the Back-Bay. It is also known that for a week before her mysterious disappearance she had been spending much time with this woman- Investigators are now bending every effort to identify the person with whom Miss Daniels had Thanksgiving dinner and with whom she attended the theater. They are also trying to estabMsh the identity of the Back Bay woman. - OPPOSITION IN SENATE. Washington, Dec. 15.—Evidence ot opposition to the senate resolution to revive the war finance corporation were apparent today at a hearing by the house committee on banking and currency.
