NEW BRITAIN DAILY HERALD, WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 24. 1920. “He’s Badly Hurt--To the Hospital!” dear to you — in time of emergency as well as under normal general conditions. If a person were hit by an automobile in front of your home, where would he be given aid? If you believe in a fire department as a necessity — if you believe in a police department as a necessity — then you believe in a hospital : You believe in » If an epidemic should strike our city, where would we look for preventive measures? necessary for necessity’s sake, not for charity’s sake. a hospital adequately equipped and properly supported to meet an emergency as well as the general needs of your city. There are today enough accident and emergency cases occurring in a city of the size of New Britain not only to fill your hospital but te overcrowd it — and crowd out persons requiring general treatment. Remember your hospital cared last year for 1,080 needy cases more than it could handle! y It’s time to marshal hospital facts — and it’s time to help prevent crowding hospital beds! Your hospital is fast becoming an Emergency Hospital which has no room for the many patients intended for it. Just as your police and fire department is absolutely necessary for “WAY DOWN EAST,” IS D PARSON the preservation of life and property in New Britain, so is your hospital absolutely necessary to protect your life and the lives of those near and HELP YOUR HOSPITAL-YOU'LL NEED IT November 29---December $600,000 IN_D W. Garbe Says it is Not Necessary for Army Discharge to Leave Ap- plicant’s Sight. Sergeant George 8. Garbe, who has been detailed to superintend the giving out of Victory medals in this city wants all the men who have not re- ceived their medals as yet to briag their discharges to him at army re- headquarters No. 319 Main street. The Sergeant explained that all a man has to do is to bring his dis- charge to headquarters while a nota- tion of it is made. He then leaves his address and the medal is sent to him. The discharge need not &0 out of the applicant’s sight, and the entire transaction will not take over ten minutes. When the application is filed, it wili be a week or ten days before the medal is forwarded to the applicant at the address he designates. Commenting on tho lack of appli- cations for the medal, the sergeant was under the impression that the men were reluctant in giving up their discharges. This order of keeping the cruiting | discharge for a few weeks has been | made void, and it is expected that the requests will now come tn more read- ily. To date there are 117,194 medals placed out of a possible 3,757,621 which is much below the capacity of the office force which the government has working at Philadelphia. The number of clasps granted for major operations are on the average two for a medal. There are granted, at the present time, 52 medals, with 9 | clasps, 9 medals with 10 clasps and two medals with 11 clasps. RED CROSS CAMPAIGN.
