President-elect Hard- ing’s tarpon fishing was interrupted today by a 35 mile norther that churned the Point Isabel fishing gTounds into a tumbling field of foam and drove the temperature down to the shivering point. Deciding to stay ashore, the sen- ator read and rested during th morning in his cottage overlooking the lagoon, but hoped before the day Was over to motor to Brownsville for A game of golf, He expressed keen disappointment that unfavorable weather had overtaken his fishing ventures. Mr. Harding’s speech in Brownsville yesterday was the only one on his engagement list during his stay here and he expects to do no work before his departure. Baron Wrangel, head of the south Russian anti-Bolshevik government is withdrawing his force in northern Crimea toward the main defense line, about 19 miles south of Perekop. The annual meeting of the Knebel Manufacturing Company will be held in Eagle’s Hall, New Britain, Tuesday, Nowv. 213, at § o'clock. Deaths and Funerals. Mrs. Mary E. Johnson. The funeral of Mrs. Mary E. John- son, wife of Rev. Lyman S. Johnson, was held this afternoon at 2 o'clock from the home at 37 South street. Rev. Willilam Ross, pastor ot the First Baptist church, and Rev. A. B. Taylor, pastor of the People church of Christ officiated. The pall- bearers were Deacons Connelly and Moore, representing the Baptist | church and Deacons Jennison and Tuttle representing the People's church. Burial was in Fairview cem- etery. Mrs. Johnson died at her yesterday morning following a ling- ering illness. She was a native of Phil- adelphia. Surviving 1s her husband, two siepsisters, the Misses Olive and Harriet Lydall of Montclair, N. and a sister, Mrs. Annie Case of Haven. Mr. Johnson, ceased, is a prominent local minister and a veteran of the Civil War. He studied at Berkeley Divirity school, Middletown, and was ordained in Cohoes, New York, about a'half cen- tury ago. Joseph Underweger, Jaseph Underweger, aged 47 years, a gardener employed by George Traut at his residence on West M street, died this afternoon at the Britain General hospital He taken il with pneumcnia last Satur- day. He leaves a brother Paul Under- weger, of this city, and brothers and wsisters in Austria. The funeral ar- rangements are incomplete. DAY NURSERY GIVES -MONTHLY REPORTS Much n ew New Britain Branch Shows Work Has Been During Scptember and October. Accomplished ’ An unusual record was established at the New Britain Day Nursery dur- ing the months of September and Oc- tober, a total of 2,500 children having been cared for at the institution by Mrs. Fran¢ J. O'Brien, who is charge. Employment was secured for 15 mothers and in eight homes, where mothers were known to be sick, the head of the nursery called in person to administer aid. In one case, coal was secured for a widow, The report of Mrs. O'Brien for the two months just passed, show the nursery to be in excellent condition. It has been free from cpidemics and the health of the children has been good. This healthy condition is kept nor- mal through the advice and instruc- tion given mothers at home and at the institution on child care. Through the kindness of friends, the nursery was able to supply 15 chil- dren with shoes and stockings; 10 boys with suits of clothes and three boyve with mackinaws. Rriends also sup- plied kettles for the fireless cooker and gave blocks and toys. The Boys' club also rendered valuable service. Professional assistance was given by Drs. Kelly, Dunn, Forest, Potts and Robinson, for which the nursery ex- presses its thanks. ST. ELMO DANOCE. The special committee of St. Elmo lodge, which has charge of a dance to be given in Bardeck's hall Tuesda evening, November 30, met last night. At the meeting subordinate commit- tees were appointed as follows: Tick- ets, Thomas Spence, Harry Witkin, M W. Clark and George Sperry; refresh- ments, Charles Boyington; floor com- mittee, J. L. Miss Helen Lagosh of 200 Tremont street was pleasantly surprised last evening by 30 of her friends with a kitchen showed. Hartford, Nov. 12.—Decisions were filed in the Connecticut cases and error was found in three of them. In the action of the Hart- ford-Connecticut Trust Co. against Lindsay B. Campbell, an action heard Judge real estate, before Maltbie in this city, the supreme court decides that Judge Malthie erred in accepting certain evidence. The judgment is set aside and the case remanded for he-hearing. In the case of Svlvia Procasino against E. Horton and Sons, in Wind- sor, in which the compensation com- missionen found that the death of the husband of the claimant did not result out of his cmpiovment. and Judge Maltbie affirmed the decision, the court finds error and directs judgment for the claimant. In the case of Bertha Aisenberg of New Britain against C. F. Adams Co.. Inc., another compensation case which the commissioner awarded judgment the supreme court finds no error. The case of David Cohen Alfred Stevenson is remanded for new trial, error being found. The action grew out of an automobile against collision and the judgment was given | in the superior court to the defendant. In the Hartford case involving the election of Robert H. Waterman as an alderman by the common council to fill a vacancy, the finds that the council acted l¢ Commonwealth Club Will Remember Landing of the Pilgrims at Exer- cises in Y. M. C. A. Next Week. The Commonwealth club will ob- serve th& 300th anniversary of the landing of the Pilgrims at the Y. M. C. A. on Wednesday cvening of next week. This will also mark the first avceting of the club for this season and an exdcnsive program has been prepared.
