JOHNSON DIES THIS MORNING Peck, Stow and Wilcox 45 l ' Was 51 Years of Age and Had Resid- ed in This City for Past 50 Years. Mrs. Mary E. Blow Johnson, wife of Rev. Lyman S. Johnson, died this morning at her home at 37 South High street following an illness of long duration, incident to advanced age. She was 81 years of age and a resident of this city for considerably more than half a century. The de- ceased was identified with the First Baptist church nearly 60 years and was prominent in the activities of that congregation until h advanced age and indisposition made it neces- sary that she discontinue her activi- ties in those lines. Mrs. Johnson was born In Winsted, the daughter of Willlam and Margaret Blow. both of whom are deceased. The Blow family came to New Brit- ain about 1850, five years prior to the coming of Mr. Johnson. Mr. and Mrs. Johnson were married a short time previous t. the outbreak of the Civil War by Rev. E. P. Bond, at that time pastor of the First Baptist church and occupant of the present Johnson house which, at that time, was the parsonage of the First Bap- tist church. In the early part of the war Mr. Johnson, who was a member of the Beventh Connecticut regiment under General Hawley, was taken a prison- er. Following his parole at Annapo- lis his wife joined him and for nine months served as a volunteer army nurse. At the close of the war Mr. Johnson egtered Cohoes college to prepare for the ministry while Mrs. Johnson returned to her home here. The deceased is survived by her husband and two step-sisters, the Misses Olive and Harriet Lydall, of Montclair, New Jersey. Funeral services will be held to- morrow afternoon at 2 o'clock from the home at 37 South High street. Rev. Willlam A. Ross, pastor of the First Baptist church, and Rev. 'A. B. Taylor, pastor of the People’s church of Christ, will officlate. The pall- bearers will be: Deacons More and Connelly, representing the First Bap- tist church, and Deacons Jennison and Tuttle, representing the People’'s church Burial will be in the family | plot at Fairview cemotery.
