WILL SHP CATTLE ACROSS TO GERMARY . German Department Heads to Help Obtain Cargo Space Berlin, Nov. 6.—~The German Ise- partment of Agriculture and the Ger- man Red Cross are crying to help Americans who have offered to send 5,000 cows to Germany to obtain car- £0 space in vessels to send the cattle across the Atlantic. The Inter-Allled Maritime board announced that it was unable to supply the tonnage re- quired. The Department of Agriculture has sent an expert to the United States to find the ships noeded to bring the cows to Germany. Meantime the Red * Oross has been trying to smooth away the difficulties here and obtain per- misslon to receive the much desired animals. These obstacles are due to confusion of authority in the govern- ment regarding the issue of permits and inspectien of the cattle when they arrive. The RNed Cross ofMcials estimate ‘that the ocean frelght charge will average 350 a head. While no restrictions are placed upon the breed of cows needed, it is pointed out that Holsteins more readily acclimate themselves, as that is the predominant breed in Germany. CLAIMS $7,000,000.
