Legisiation affecting rs may be vetoed by the high sommissioner. U. 5. CONSUL ROBBED Tokio Reports Holp-up at Viadivos- tok, Siberia—Robbers Are Firing on Civillans in City. Toklo, Aug, 22.—Bandits held up and robbed the American consul at Viadivostok, says a dispatch received today from that city by the Kokusai agency. The consul and his wife, ac- companied by a British officer were walking through the outskirts of the city when they were accosted by six men who took their valuables and escaped. On the same day Russian bandits riding in two automobiles entered Viadivostok. They fired upon the mili- tia who attempted without success to them. In the confusion the militia directed their fire upon the Japanese postoffice. This brought Jap- anese troops who captured the militia. They were , however when the situation was explained. COX PREPARING ATTACK Governor Will Tell of Different G. O. P. Campaign Funds to Add Fucl to the Controversy. Dayton, O., Aug. His speeches this week are expected to add fuel to the controversy opened wide by his charges that a minimum republican fund of $15,000,000 is being amassed. He is to speak next Wednesday afternoon at Princeton, Ind., evening at Evansville, Ind.; Thurs- day night at Pittsburgh; Friday night at New Haven, Conn., and Sat- urday at New York. He has said he will produce proof of his charges. In Ohio alone, he has stated that $500,000 was raised quickly by the republicans, and in another instance $700,000 was sub- scribed without difficulty. Decatur, Ala., Aug. 23.—The thirty- one anti-suffrage members of the Tennessee house who came here to break a quorum and prevent further action on ratification of the 19th amendment, paid today they were de- termined to “stick it out to the fin- ish.” Mrs. James S. Pinckard of Mont- Ala., president of the South- ern Women's Rejection league, passed through the city and was greeted at the station by the legislators. She invited them to make their home in Montgomery. Col. W. T. Sanders, democratic national committeeman from this statezsat the head of a del- egation of Athens citizens extended a similar invitation. The legislators yesterday went to church in a body, each wearing a red rose, the anti-suffrage emblem. Dur- ing the day they were guests of citizens on an automobile tour.
