Due to salary increases, the prop- osition to build a new fire house in the northeastern section of the city and a provision for the establishment af the two-platoon system, the board of fire commissioners, in its estimates for the board of finance and taxation, this year will ask $232,360. Included | in that total is'an item of $51,350 for, the two-platoon. system and another' of $35,260 for the new station. The station will cost $19,000; equipment, $11,000, and maintenance for six months, $5,250. Had it not been for the salary increases and the two- platoon provision, the commission would have requested but $125,000 for this year's work. The new system item will be voted upon as a separate proposition in the common council. Forty new men must be hired at a cost of $54,840, but'with the. elimination of the call force the net cost will be 350, 1N L The Leading Store An appropriation of $3,000 for a new car to be used by the fire chief| will be asked. The present car has been in service since 1811 and could be used as a service or supply car if replaced. If an appropriation is granted, two men will be hired at a salary of $1,200 each to devote all of their time to fire prevention work. Repairs at Engine House No. 3 will cost $4,600. This item will be in- clyded to make possible the estab- lishing of a permanent station for the aerial ladder company. Annulment of Childless Marriages Sets Precedent Milan, Jan. $0.—The annulment of a marriage was obtained here solely on the grounds that 1t was childless. This decision is expected to be followed by numerous applica- tions for annulment on similar grounds for there is no divorce Italy.
