Hydrants Snowed In. A visitor in Plainville who was here when the fire department was called out Sunday remarked the delay in sounding the alarm and found fault with the system in other re- spects. He noticed that the .fire hy- drants in the center of the town were nearly covered with snew and ice and that only «a few inches of the top of cach hydrant ceuld be seen. His criticism started something and there h been much eriticism of conditions in the last couple of days. A round of inspection this mérning showed the stranger’s criticisms of hydrant conditions to be true of the hydrants in other streets besides the center of the town. If a fire broke out gnd the department was obliged to use the hydrants they would be in four session of shoveling snow be- fore they could attach a line of hose 1o a hydrant. The delay in such a case might, however, prove disastrous.
