The expert asserts that owing to the low exchange value of the German marlk, Germans can ob- tain abroad higher prices in marks than they can at home. Even ¢ these export prices he says, Germany is able to underbid the entire world by about 50 per cent. | To demonstrate how the low ex- change rate for marks produces this result he cites as an example the casc of a German manufactured product sold in Holland. This cost before the war 40 marks, which in Holland amounted to about 24 gulden. The same article costs in Germany today perhaps 160 marks, the equivalent of only 20 gulden. Adding profit, freight etc., the article is sold In Holland at 26 gulen, ov little more than before the war. Thus, the expert, Ger- many underbids foreign competitors ountries. The result is, he adds, that Ger- many received 50 per cent. less oney than might be obtained and the en- industrial and trade of the world js aroused again Germany because “Unbeatable” competition.
