MY HEART o ADELE GARRISON MY HUSBAND S NEW PHASE OF Revelations of a Wife ———— hat Allen Drake Really Knew About Harry Underwood. Bven Lillian’s poise, her nerves of n, were not proof against this news Allen Drake’s. I never shall forget |- appearance as she stood arrested his words, her coffee cup half-way her lips. The next instant it had hshed to the floor and for a long, se moment my friend looked down it vacantly with gray face and aying figure. ir. Drake looked at me inquiringly h an expression of remorseful dis- pss on his face. I put my finger iftly against my lips, for I knew v word of apology from him would Iy distr and humiliate Lillian cause it would stress the fact that e was undeniably upset, was exhi- ing a loss of poise unnatural in her. “Of Course, We're Not Sure—" “On his way to America peated, rising as though excited b; news and going over to Mr. take. I was careful to take a posi- n which brought me between Lil- n and him. I knew that she needed ly a few scconds to regain com- hnd of herself, and that the only H we could give her was to appear loonscious of her agitation. llen Drake's quick wits saw ough my ruse at once, and with unworthy little thrill of triumph him I saw an undeniable gleam admiration leap into his eyes. He evidently intended to say more, but I saw him look quickly, attentively, at behind me. And Lillian’s voice, clear, incisive, into the conversation. ’ “Tell us all you have learned,” she it something cut said crisply. I stole a look at her. pallid, but every tremo trace of emotion was gone from her. The few seconds’ respite had been enoush to enable her to pull herself together. She was again the dominating figure of our little group. She was still returned, hesitatingly. I man-like, he dreaded a hreakdown on Lillian’s part, although he had worked with her many times, knew of what chilled steel her nerves were made. But I suspected from the questions he had put to me while Lillian was absent from the room that his shrewd observation had deduced the real state of Lillian’s feelings toward the husband who had treated her so bad- 1y, and the artist who loved her sin- cerely, so hopelessl Therefore, he v not sure what effect his news would have upon her. “Tell it all, minutely,” commanded “As vou know,” Mr. Drake bhegan, “we have had people trying to locate Mr. Underwood for you ever since he was reported missing. We found ths he was really the man wounded in the German prison, but for a long time we could get no further details concerning him. Then, recently, we found that he had recovered almost miraculously from his : wounds—he must have the constitution of giant—" “He has,” Lillian interposed impa- tiently, as he paused for a second. “Go on.” I saw OMr. momentarily, quietly: “He has left the prison, where, of course, he was not a prisoner after the armistice, and started in the gen- eral direction of the French coast. There we lost track of him; for, of course, we cannot shadow him as we would a criminal. But one of our men, with whom he grew quite chummy, reports that Mr. Underwood said once he thought he would go back to '‘America and ‘begin all over again.’"” | Mr. Drake saw that, Lillian Drake’s eyvebrows go up but he continued 1301 ! vAUBL Y TELE TONIGHT, TOMORROW and SATURDAY HARRY “RIDERS OF VENGEANCE” A Brilliant Star in a Tremendous Six Reel Melodrama P nde No. 12 of TIGER’S TRAIL” Sy PATHE S MUTT & JEFF SCREEN SUPPLEMENT Epi “THE VAUDEVILLE 4— BIG ACTS —4 ESAES e JIMMIE MADISON “The Comedy Juggler” L WALTERS & WILLIAMS —o0 SHANNON & TROYES “The Wop and the Girl” —o: ECHOES OF THE SOUTH “A Plantation Jubilee” 8—People—s Singing, Dancing, Comedy then | MATINEES 11c and 6c EVENINGS 22¢ THURSDAY, FRIDAY, BELLE BENNE SATURDAY “The May_or_ of Filbert” 7-Reel FATTY EDDIE POLO in ARBUCKLE Super-Production IN “LOVE” A Cyclone Smith Story ‘omplete Change of Vaudeville CING PHI DS AL BURTON'S REVIEW AND HURLFALL NO RMA TALMADGE Sunday Night ) | “There isn't so very much to tell,” ! Harry Carey, the popular star of western photodramas, added another to his long list of successes last night in “Riders of Vengeance,” his latest production. There is something grati- tyingly wholesome abaut this sta portrayal of the life in the west 50 vears ago that malkes one forget that the six shooter was the law in those days and that the man who was quick- est on the draw had the best chance for a long tussle with Father Time. Throughout “Riders of Vengeance” as well as others of the western melo- imas in which Harry Carey has ap- ared, the warp and woof of fair play as been woven into the fabric of the story to such an extent that the cloth innot be ronounced other than all Wwool in wholesomeness. The story concerns the oath of a young lain man to revenge the murder of hi arents, brathers and bride as they werc caming from the church affer the ceremony. The killing of his fam- fly was the result of onc of those deadly cattle feuds which are a blot on the fair name of the west five decades How the ranchman battled hi way through the list of his famil murders, finally meeting the sheriff, whom he believes was the perpetrator of the assassinations, is told in one thrilling situation after another in “Riders of Vengeance.” The twelfth chapter of “The Tiger's Trail,” with Ruth Roland and George Larkin is entitled “The Two Ama- zons” and is replete with suspense, the fight for the possession of the Tiger's Idol becoming more exciting as each episode unfolds itself. PADACE THEATER. Today brings to the Palace another corking good show, both in vaudeville and photoplay features. The photo- play feature is the seven reel super- praduction, ““The Mayor of Filbert,” starring beautiful Belle Bennett, su- ported by an all-star cast. It is with- out a doubt one of the most powerful photoplays of the vear. The story deals largely with that most vital topic, prohihition, hut there is inter- woven an appealing love theme, which | comes to make the production as a | whole an .unusually balanced vehicle | Jack Richardson plays the male Tead | and gives a spendid interpretation of a difficult dual role. And it is hard | to say whether he is mare interesting as the highest official of a big city or a derelict. Certainly he is confronted with one of the biggest problems that ever heset a man. Another sp feature on the program is the buckle comedy with Fatty Arbuckle in | “Love.” A new “Cyclane mith" story with Eddie Polo and several other short subjects complete the pho- toplay bill. The vaudeville these last three days consists of high class acts and includes ‘“The Three Dancing ¥iends,” Veronica and Harlfall in a novelty offering, and Al Burton's Re- view.
