Representative Everette B. Howard of Oklahoma and others followed in rapid succession with similar bills. Letters and telegrams by the thou- sand have poured into the offices of senators and congressmen, which in a large measure have brought pres- sure to bear on the matter, although in many cases the representatives from all parts of the country have not required any coercing to make them favor the repeal of the soda water tax. Somse of these letters, many of them from schoel children, have been truly amusing in their phraseology and direct simplicity in telling their troubles. Muncie, Ind., 27.—Horace Murphy, prosecuting attorney of Del- aware county, and Dr. H. | Bunch, mayor of Muncie, were ar- | rested yesterday in connection with operations by alleged swindlers, who made their headquarters in Muncie. Both men gave bonds for $10,000 cach. The government's allegation is that they provided protection from arrest to men accused by the federal au- thorities of having swindled at least thirty-four wealthy men by means of fake prize fights and wrestling matches.
