Meskill, and John W aged 24, was bound over to the next term of the superior court under bonds of $1,000 for the theft of $320 from Miss Rose Terchef- ki. It is alleged that Was, uhder pre- tense that he was going to marry Rose, secured the 0 trom her and skipped town when she detected his plan. He w: arrested in Palmer, Massachusc yesterday afternoon by Sergeant Richardson Drew Moncy From Bank. Miss Terchefki stated that the money was drawn from the savings bank, December 24, and turned over to Was at that time to begin prepara- tions for the wedding and furnishing their new home. He took no steps in the ¢ of arranging for the wedding | and continued to put off the date of marriage until she demanded that he cither give her the money or marry her. He chose the latter course and promised to marry her after Easter, but a few days later skipped town and had not been heard of until last week. Rose heard that he was working in Three Rivers, Mass., and had a war- rant for his arrest issued. Not His First Offense. Was denied ever receivng the money from Rose although he admits having been with her when the money was drawn. He also admitted, when ques- tioned. that he had received $350 from another girl several months ago in the same manner, and when she threat- ened to have him prosecuted, paid her back. In both cases the accused had promised to marry the girl. Reckless Driver Fined. A fine of $35 and costs was paid hy Frank Principino of Painville, charg- ed with reckless driving. Officer W liam Hayes made the arrest following a hot chase up West Main street ahout noon yesterday, and in court today the officer testified that he was forced to make 50 miles an hour on his motor- cycle to apprehend the driver. Principino didn’t think he < go- ing over 30 miles an hour, he said, but was in a hurry and unable to say just how fast he was going whe~ arrested. Must Support Family. George Robinson was warned hy Judge Meskill that his next appear- ance in court for non-support will re- sult in a jail sentence. Robinson has three children and for some time has contributed nothing toward their sup- port or the support of his mother with whom he lives. His wife left home last November and returned a short time ago, but since her return has not been living with him. Wife's Story. Robinson admitted having neglected to support the children, but said he was trying to find a home for them His wife returned several weeks ago, he added, but he has not seen her ex- cepting on a few occasions on the street. Mrs. Robinson, the wife, had nothing to say other than: “George said ho could find someone to take care of the children better than 1, so I let him try. Fe has been bringing the children up to think I am dead.” Assault Charge Dropped. Samuel Smith was discharged when the assault which he was alleged to have committee yesterday upon Louis Abrahamson proved to be mora the fault of the plaintiff than of Smith.
