Coffey returned from France last week after serving six months on the other side in American hospitals and cantonments. He will return to the central headquarters of the Knights of Columbus in New | York in a few days and expects to re- ceive his discharge from war work | service at that time. Coffey wears the “Fleur-de-lis” i signia denoting that he was connected | with the branch of K. of C. service having no set station but was liable to transfer to any part of France with a few hours’ notice. The greater part | of his period overseas was spent, how- | il ever, in and near Paris and for sev- | | eral months he was connected with | the welfare department of the Nantes | military hospital. He was later con- nected with another Thospital near Nantes maintained for the cure of | shell-shock and temporarily insane | soldiers and marines. While in Paris, Coffey and some other K. of C. secre- | were given an audience with | Cardinal Amette, the head of the dio- | cese of Paris and the local man re- ceived a number of souvenirs from the | cardinal. | His return from France was an | eventful one, having been caught in a storm at sea for several days. During that time 16 marines on board the ship died.
