Me- Cullough, car & pair of bandits fled last Friday the taxicab driver in whose afternoon after killing two off s of the East Brooklyn Savings Bank and robbing the institution of $13,000, was indicted yesterday for first murder by the Kings County Jury. The indictment was returned after McCullough had pleaded guilty when arraigned before Judge Campbell in Part I. of the County Court. John Mulligan, a Black and White Taxi company starter stationed at the Hotel Navarre, charged with being an accessory 1o the crime, was held in $10,000 bail as material witness. In default of bail he was remanded to jail The indictment of McCuilough and the detenticn of MMulligan was largely due to the testimony of Rudolph Neu- schaffer, another taxi driver in the Broadway distric Neuschaffer told the Grand Jury that on the day be- fore the double murder and robbery he saw McCullough and Mulligan talking near the latter's stand with two men whose description tallies with those of the robbers. Mulligan Doesn’t Remember. Mulligan, on the stand, said that he did not remember holding the con- versation Neuschaffer described, having a drink with Neuschaffer im- mediately afterward, as the witness testified he had done Other witnesses who fore the Grand Jury were Dr. M. The robbery of a wholesale liquor store in Astoria, L. 1., Monday by two men who answer the general descrip- tion of the bank murderers was re- ported to acting Captain Coughlin vesterday, According to the story told the police by Mrs. Sam Kohn, wife of the proprietor, who was alone in the store, at 724 Steinway avenue, a tall man and a shorter man en- tered the place by different doors. The taller man, wearing, as the leader in the bank robbery did, a sol- dier's campaign hat, pointed a re- volver at her and warned her to keep quiet. He covered her, she declared, while the short man rifled the cash register of $40, overlooking $600 in a drawer belcw the register and $1,000 in Liberty bonds in an open safe. The tall man forced her to hand over a lavalliere she was wearing and also demanded a pair of earring: Mrs. Kohn bursting into tears, said that the earrings were a memento of her dead mother. “In that case, madam,” said the tall robber politely “you may keep them.’ Then after warning her to \make no outery while they were getting away he and his companion left the store. A few minutes later, when Mrs. Kohn called her husband, the intruders had disappeared and a search by the po- failed to discover them.
