You see, from what Edith Fairfax told me 1 realized that Harry was no longer a menace. In fact, all that he did was in order to save you and your father from Grace Draper’s devilish plans. And, of course, in my position it was easy for me to make known the real state of affairs, and make the pursuit of him simply a perfunctory one. And I guessed that when he came to himself—you know he had been drinking heavily at the time at the time—"" She hesitated. I finished the sen- tence for her. ““At the time he nearly caused Dicky’s death,” I said bitterly A shadow crossed her face. New York, Oct. 26.—With the aid of city police departments and of women who have volunteered to make house canvasses, the names of many women who have had nu ing experience have been added to the rolls of the nurses’ survey now being made by the Atlantic Division of the American Red Cross, Although actual work on the survey was bekun only ten day ago, the lists at the disposal of the Red Cross have been used to provide over 200 nurses to combat the influenza epidemic in this city and nearly 200 women have been found to volunteer for war work. The survey itself, however, does not entail work of any kind. All those who sign questionnaires or who en- roll as nurses are entered upon the lists to be furnished the War Depart- ment that it may know exactl the resources of the country The Red Cross took up the Wwork of making the survey at the request of r Department. Primarily the was to be merely a tabulation ng resources, but it has grown so in importance untii it is being used by the department in finding those willing to do war work during the coming winter. By using every source of informa- tion at its disposal, the Red Cros expects to record every nurse in New York, New Jersey. and before the survey ends.
