At a special meeting of the direc- tors of the Commercial Trust com- pany this morning it was voted to purchase the LeWitt block on Main street, in which the bank is now lo- cated. By taking advantage of a pre- viously obtained option, the bank has permanently established its location for the future. In a short time an architect will prepare plans for al- terations which will give the bank the whole ground floor for its banking business. The directors elected Harold C. Mott, a clerk at the Connecticut Trust Co., Hartford, to be assistant treas- urer. Mr. Mott has been with the Connecticut Trust Co. for six years. He is a graduate of the American Bank Association school in the legal and banking departments. Hoe is sec- retary of the Hartford Institute of the American Institute of Banks. On June 15 he will enter upon his duties in this city. NEW GUNS USED IN ATTACK ON PARIS Shells of Increased Caliber and With Hcavier Powder Charge Reach the French Capital. Paris, May 29.—The bombardment of Paris early this morning. Examination of the shells dis- charged by the Germans in Jong-range bombardment Jdf Paris which began again on Monday indicates that nesw guns are being used. Larger shells are being employed than formerly, the caliber of the guns being 220 milli- meters instead of 210. The powder charge is greater and the detonation louder, but the force of the explosion does not seem to have been increased. A shell yesterday exploded a dozen long-range began again | vards from a man seated on a bench and did not injure him. GERMAN PRESS TOO BOASTFUL. Ordered to Tone Down Enthusiasm on New Offensive. London, May 29.—German japers apparently have been orders to tone down their war en- thusiasm, says the Amsterdam cor- ondent of the Daily Express, re- ng on German comment on Mon- fighting along the Aisne. The Cologne Volks Zeitung says of the fighting: “Our new success shows us again how justified is our confi- dence in our great leaders. Washington, May 29.—A maximum base price of 33 cents a pound for | aluminum in lots of 50 tons or more | of the ingot 98 to 99 per cent grade, was fixed by President Wilson today under an agreement between pro- ducers and the war Industries board. | The new price is effective June 1 and will continue until September 1.
