BOLO EXPECTED T0 FOUND CUBAN BANK Seoured Aid oIJ P Morgan to | Extent.of 60,000,000 Francs Paris, Feb. 8 —Testifying at the treason trial.of Bolo Pasha, M. Bauer, director of the Perier Bank, told of the transfer of funds from New York gnd Bolo’s proposal to found a bank in-Cuba in 1914. He said-that he and Bolo saw J. P. Morgan in New York fn 1914 and prevailed upon him to subscribe 60,000,000 francs to the eap- jtal of the bank to be established. The Perier Bank, he said, was to sub- scribe 40,000,000 fran: Signor Sottolana, a singing teacher, friend of Filippo Cavallinie, a co-dc fendant in the case who is under ar- rest in Italy, told how Cawallinie had sent him letters from Italy to post in Paris. The audience showed surpris when the witness said that Mme. Cail- jamx, wife of the former premier was among those to whom the letters had been addressed. Signor Sottolana was the man who accompanied Cavallinie when the lat. ter, it is charged, gave Bolo a pack- former Khedive of Egypt. The wit- ness was unable to state the exact amount in. the package. The first woman witness to be called by the government to testify against Molo Pasha was Mme. Marie Lafargue, at one time an intimate friend of Abbas Hilmi, the former Khedive of Egypt. Her appearance created a mild stir in the crowded court room Mme. Lafargue's testimony was principally to the effect that Bolo, notwithstanding his claim that he never kept business books and cared | nothing for money, had once loaned her 20,000 francs, but only on condi- tion that she give him a mortgage on her property as well as a note signed Y her mother, her two brothers, and herself. The accused, she said, played | the part of a shrewd and exacting | Bolo Pasha denied that made a loan to Mme. claiming that at the time mentioned, ccording to the testimony of M. Doven, a financial expert, he had an | ncome of only 47,000 fran he had | t wholly to hearing corroborativd testimony, and M. C: >lla, - a news- paper writer, and M. Mouthon, edior in chief of the Journal. The newspa- permen described in great detail the ctivities in Switzerland of Bolo Pasha, his relations with the formrer Khedive of Egypt, and the purchase of stock in the Journal.
