Yvonne loves Anatole, a village youth, but follows the dictates of her religious bent and enters a convent. Anatole worships her from afar, con- soled by the kindly words of the vil- lage priest. Finally Anatole enters holy orders and remains in the town where Yvonne lives in the convent. Suddenly their peaceful land is in- vaded by the Prussians, and true to his ! prediction, Captain Franz marches in- to the village at the head of his sol- diers. Learning that Yvonne is in the con- vent, Captain Franz invades its sacred walls and threatens the inmates. Up- on his promise that he will spare the other nuns, Yvonne goes with him and leaves Father Anatole to mourn. After the war, Yvonne returns to the village and seeks out Father Anatole. To his care she entrusts her babe, begs him to call her Yvonne and to always protect her. The mother dies happy in the good priest’s promise to devole his life to the care of the child. PHYSICAL ED!
