Suggested for Fire Inspector Should Offica Be Created—Third Oldest Permanent Man in Point of Service. It hag been announced that the fire commissioners wlll probably evolve a new plan of fire prevention where- by some regular fireman will be per- manently detailed to inspect buildings about the city, assisted by other fire- OAPT. MICHAEL SOUNEY men as they may be assigned to this work. The move is said to be favored by the fire insurance under- writers and is also thought to have the approval of those interested in fire prevention. ‘While the fire commissioners have not as vet adopted this plan, it is ex- pected that they will eventually and already the name of Captain Michael Souney of Engine company No. § is being frequently mentioned for the position of permanent inspector. Cap- tain Souney, in addition to being con- sidered an excellent fireman, is the third oldest permanent man in the department in years of service, the other two being Willlam Kelly and Richard Hartnett. N. B. H. S. FOOTBALL RECEPTION. Plans have been completed for the annual reception for the New Britain High school foottail team which will be held Friday, December 14, in the High school gymnasium. The recep- tion bids fair to be one of the most successful events of the vear. Phy- sical Director Moorhead has prepared the following program of speakers: “The Value of Athletics to the High School Boy of 1917,” S. H. Holmes: 1017, NNV EREL. S Macristy ;=191 8,2 Charles Vibberts. Following the speaking, Principal L. P. Slade will present the monograms to the mem- bers of the 1917 team. The Civics club meeting has been postponed until December 20. The interclass girls’ basketball schedule was begun yester- day, when the senior team defeated the juniors, 13 ta 2. Bessie Koplo- witz, captain of the senior team, starred. FIRE ON PARK STREET. Blaze in House Owned by Lumber and Coal Company. Companies No. 1, 2, 3 and 5, of the fire department, were called to the New Britain Lumber and Caal Co. on Park street this morning at 11:45 ‘' o’clock to put out a small blaze in a house owned by the company. | _The fire started in the coal bin in ! the cellar and only a clothesbasket and the woodwork on one of the win- dows were burned. The alarm was i sent in by an employe of the com- pany. | Two traffic officers narrowly escaped | being hit by the fire autos in their | rush to the scene of the fire. | | LECTURE FOR MILK STATION. 1 Amid all the war work don't for- | get the lecture in the interests of tho | milk station which is to be held at | the grammar school hall Wednesday evening. The topic of the lecture, | which will no doubt prove very inter- esting, will be “The National Yellow- stone Park,” by Rev. Warren F. Cook. | It is hopsd that many people will | attend the lecture and do their bit | in helping to provide for New Brit- | ain’s 350 bables under the case of the Infant Welfare and Milk association.
