Many retail butchers in residentinl districts haven't market down their wares as vet, but it is believed they will respond as soon as customers begin to complain. The very best beef is still holding firm, but the next best—the kind that most everybody gets—has declined from three to 10 cents a pound at retail. Down in Washington Market, where competition is keen and pr lower than in neighborhoow shops in the residential sections, butchers have cut their prices quite noticeably. According to a Washington Market dealer the following reductions have been made in prices at_his stand in the past ten days: Prime rib roast, 32 to 35 cents a pound, formerly 38 cents; porterhouse steak, 35 to 38 cents a pound, former- ly 45 cents; sirloin ak, 32 cents a pound, formerly cents. The wholesale price of dropped from 27 cents to ents a pound in the past ten days, and now legs of lamb are retailing in Wash- ington Market at from 30 to 32 cents a pound, depending on size, as com- pared with 35 cents. Trimmed lamb chops have gone down to 38 cents a pound from 45 cents, and trimmc'l mutton cho have been reduced from 38 to cent Good veal remains practically un- changed in price, although there is a lot of cheap veal. Retail poultry prices are not as high as they were around the Jewish holidays. Fowl, which retailed then at 36 cents a pound, was 33 cents yes- terday. Soup fowl was 25 cents a pound, as compared with 28. killed roasting chickens are 30 to 32 cents a pound, as against and broilers are now 35 and 38 cents, and a lamb has But Are Lower Than a Few Weeks | | | though still very high as compared tu | the good old days, have been reduced ' a recent wholesale drop of from one | Fresh | 35 cents, | as compared with 40 and 45 cents ten i days ago.
