These truly wonderful animals perform seemingly impossible feats, and do them : with ease and grace only .assumed by They have been trained to walk a tight rope while skil- fully balancing an open umbrella on the tips of their noses. They climb ladders while balancing large rubber balls, tossing them from one to the other with the greatest skill. They ride rbareback on galloping horses while whirling brands of fire, juggling rubber balls and other articles. The Performance of these remarkable sea animals is truly a sensation, and the ease and quickness with which they obey every command of Captain Tie- bor, their trainer, leaves little doubt ‘but what they enjoy giving the per- formance fully as much as the aud- fence enjoy seeing it. Some idea of the expense ipcurred in presenting this act to the public can be obtained from the statement that these ani- mals must be fed on lve fish, which must necessarily be of the salt water variety, hence must come ° shipped alive from either the Atlanmtic or Pa- cific ocean. It costs froms five to ten dollars each per day to board these, animals, varying according to the show’s distance from either ocean. Gingham and wool ‘Jersey form one of the striking new combinations. Pleated Georgette crepe petticoats are worn beneath lingerie frocks. While the fashionable belt disap- pears now and then, there are some very good frocks with belts that go frankly arosnd the waist. jrocted oy W :rm by; 8 The Page Mystery. Absorbing Detective Romance at Fox's Today and ‘Tomorrow. THE PAGE MYSTERY AT FOX'S THEATER It you were convinced that you ‘were guilty of murder, and were just about ta surrender yourself to the police, what would you do if your worst enemy claimed that it was he who had fired the fatal shot? And then, supposing the girl you loved in an apparent effort to ahleld the prisoner, and swore that SHE WRa EAlIy:: T IS Soniy 8 sample of the perplexing situations that crowd “The Page Mystery,” the feature of the Fox program for today and tomorrow. And the part of it is, that each of the three, unknown to the other two, actually shoat at the dead man, with intent to kill, and each, consequently is con- vinced of his own guilt. An absolute revelation in mystery romances is this picture, in which June Eividge, the winsome star of “The Whip” plays the REVELATIONS leading role. Never before has there sbeen presented on the screen a story of such dramatic intensity and baffling intricacy, and for the whole five reels, surprise follows surprise with a rapidity that would seem impossible without sacrificing the logical struc- ture of the plot. From an artistio standpoint, too, “The Page Mystery"” has received an abundance of highly favorable criticism. The majority of the scenes were filmed at Saranac Lake during the past winter ,and it is quite the best “snow stuff” that has been seen. Among the interesting scenic incidents are the ice races on the frozen lake, and dare-devil tobog- gan sliding. The best bit of travesty .seen in many days is presented in Musty Suffer’s latest screen vehicle entitled “Starlight .. Sleep”” The past per- formances of this irrepressible come- dian are enough to guarantee fifteen minutes of rapid-fire laughter at any time, but with his present subject, he outdoes himself, and passes all pre- vious records for speed and hilarity. Another well known funmaker on the: bill is cute little Hughié Mack, OF A WIFE By ADELE GARRISON ‘Why Drake Accepts Madge’s Word of Honbr and Promises Not to Pester Her. I arose ufiusunl|y early upon the morning following my interview with Mr. Drake, the guest Dicky had brought home with -him for over night. I had scarcely closed 'my eyes during the entire night, and" it was impossible for me longer to endure the torture of trying .ta lie still enough to keep from disturbing Dicky’s slumbers. I'bathed and dressed and descended the stairs to find Jim just building the log fire in the big living room fire- place. I thought I detected ‘a worried look on Jim’'s honest face as he saw me enter the room. “Will you be wanting breakfast earlier than usual?” he asked., Katie isn’t up yet. She has a bad head- ache, and I told her I'd get the coffee ground and everything ready for her before she got up. But if you want brukfut earlier I'd better call her now.” I stopped him as he was leaving the room. “Don't call her until breakfast is almost ready to be served,” I said. “I haven’t anything to do ,and I shall be glad to get breakfast.” Jim’'s face broke into smiles," “You're awfully good, Mis’ Gra- ham,” he said awkwardly, ‘“and I'll FOLLOW THE CROWDS TO THE MOST OF THE BEST FOR THE LEAST TODAY : AND . I know quite a lot about it, because I often help Katie out in the mornings. But I don’t kpow what Katie will say if she knows I let her sleep while you got bpeakfast. I'll get Hail Columbia, sure,” he finished with a dubioys shake of the head. “Don’t worry about tI Jim,” I reassured him, smilingly. "1l take care of Katle, Is the kitchen fire built?” “‘Oh, yes mn.m and the tea kettle's on.” “Then I'll go upstairs and get an apron and come right down,” I promised. Another Early Riser. Fortunately I had kitchen aprons in a chest in one of the hall closets, so it ‘was not necessary for me to go back into our room again. I had no desire to waken Dicky before his regular time for arising. But when, after donning the apron, I walked toward the stairs again, what was my surprise to meet Mr. Drake ,as, fully dressed, faultlessly groomed, he came out of his room, “I am.indeed fortunate,” he said, and I noticed in his manner the touch of old-world courtesy which had slipped from him for awhile the night before wheg he was talking to me of my father. “I had no idea any one ever rose so early as myself. 1 thought I would have time for a little stroll before any one else was stirring. Perhaps you will join me? There was something in his mgnner that made his proposal less audacious than it sounded. I was sure that it was simply an idle courtesy on the part of our guest. But I had a sud- den, swift little vision of Dicky’s face if he shauld waken and find that I had accompanied his strange guest upon an early morning stroll. I resolved, however to meet Mr. Drake’s request in exactly the spirit in which it was given. I felt that this man and myself were pitted against each other, and that as a skilful fencer might do, I must guard my| every word and action. “Unfortunately, I am cook this morning,” I said in as gay a tone as I could muster, indicating my apron. “My mald is not feeling well, and I ‘have volunteered to get breakfast. 'So I should advise you to take an un- usually brisk stroll' and work up an appetite. You would need none for Katie’s breakfasts, but mine are different I am afraid.” ‘We were in the living room by this time, and the full glow of the elec- trolier shone upon my face, for it was not yet full daylight outdoors. I saw Mr. Drake start as he looked at me. The dim light of the hall and stairs had evidently concealed the ravages which my vigil of the night before had wrought upon me. That there were deep shadows under my eyes, from sleeplessness and quiet weeping, I know, and that I was unusually pale, with little drawn lines around my mouth. . But I had no dea that would have any effect upon Mr., Drake. “So Be It” So I was surprised to hear him mutter something which sounded like $87.50. Every suit in the house, in; Wool ! But the transformation lasted but a mament.. The next moment the veil had dropped again. But there lingered something in the man’s manner which made me vague- ly hopeful. Throwing back his shoulders as if he had suddenly decided upon & course of action, he took a step toward me. “You game little creature!” he said, and even through my agitation I could not help but be amused by his use of the word “little,”” for I am above the average feminine height. “q am going to let up on you as far as I can. I can’t throw up looking for Robert Gordon, but if you'll give me yodr word that you don’t know his address, as you intimated last night, 1'll not pester you any further until something turns up that makes it ab- solutely necessary for me to' do so.” “I tald you the truth,” I returned steadily. “I do not know Mr. Gor- don’s address.” “So be it,” he returned, bowing low. ‘WOMANHOOD' SCORES AT LYCEUM THEATER Those who witnessed the showing of “Womanhood” at the Lyceum yes- terday, were treated to one of the most stupendous and artistic photo- play performances ever presented in this city. In addition to this feature which consisted of eight stirring reels, many other pictures were shown which equal the feature as works of art. Especially the O. Henry story film was very pleasing and was so well liked that the management will show them at the theater at regular intervals. Today and tomorrow ars the only remaining days in which to see”the above features. Another attraction which enhanced the value of the picture was the clear and sharp manner in which the pic- ture was projected on the screen. This is the result of the installation of two brand new machines of the latest type and an especially built gener- ator for moving picture work. Anéther treat awaits New - Britain theatergoers in the showing of “With- in the Law” next Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Those who saw the play remember it as containing a story much better adapted for the screen than for the stage. This pic- ture should pack the theater on all three days. _ AT SHEESLEY SHOWS The carnival grounds were lun-lly packed last night with sightseers terested in the Sheesley shows. 7 and young vied in making merry, and not a word of discord could be heard on either hand. There is no doubt of the popularity of this form of ourdoor | amusement. Prince George is miles ahead of his cousin Consul or Charles the first, both of whom have made their managers fortunes. The mile a; minute girl and her brother who defy | the laws of gravity in the hugh bowl of death are all that the press agents claim for them. The big trained wild animal show is even better than that of the late animal king Bastock who amazed all Europe as well as other countries with his.animal acts, Then there is the _simileless .man who holds hands with the girls at the side show and agrees to marry the girl who can make him break his smileless countenance, while the many freaks and features of this show look on in compassion: upon the girl who would fain marry such an ice- berg.
