While it is out of the domain of the city or its committee, it has been suggested that the women of the city, either individually or through their various organizations, form. canning chibs to preserve the food supply. It is argued that these women could can large quantities of beans, tomatoes, corn, beets and other vegetables which would be valuable to each fam- ily during the winter. It has also been suggested that during the sum- mer months, and particularly during the canning season, the school au- thorities permit the use of the Fre- vocational Grammar school and also, that part of the Vocaational High school where domestic arts are taught and illustrated. In these schools are all facilities for canning and, under proper supervision, the plan, it is thought, would work out to advantage. The Connecticut Agricultural col- lege, which has already given New Britain the services of two of its experts, has issued a comprehensive bulletin on canning, containing re- ceipts for fruits, vegetables and meats. This bulletin is now®being printed and copies of it will be available in a day or two. These coples may be obtained without cost by any resident of Connecticut who will ask for them. They will be distributed by the Con- necticut committee of food supply at its headquarters.
